Marc J. Wallace
Marc J. Wallace, Jr. is a founding partner of the Center for Workforce Effectiveness. He is based in Northbrook, Illinois where he serves as a management consultant specializing in workforce effectiveness, human resource strategy, and compensation. Prior to founding the Center in 1992, he was Professor and Ashland Oil Fellow in the Department of Management, College of Business and Economics, University of Kentucky. He has served as Chairman of that department. In May 1983, he was named a Great Teacher by the University of Kentucky’s Alumni Association, becoming the third member in the College’s history so honored. He holds the BA degree from Cornell University and the MA and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Wallace is an internationally recognized expert on rewards and human resource strategy, legal compliance, and compensation. His research findings have been published in over 60 articles and papers in such periodicals as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Industrial Relations, Compensation and Benefits Review, Decision Sciences, The Journal of Vocational Behavior and many others.
He has co-authored nine books on management and human resources including Organizational Behavior And Performance, 4th ed., Administering Human Resources, Compensation Theory and Practice, 2nd ed., and Research Based Decisions, best selling text books that have been used by over 1 million students. He also co-authored Work and Rewards in the Virtual Workplace: A “New Deal” for Organizations and Employees (American Management Association) which was named Book of the Year by SHRM in 1999. His latest book, The Headcount Dilemma, will be published by McGraw Hill business books in the Fall, 2002.
Dr. Wallace has served as an expert witness before the federal judiciary and as a special consultant to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on matters regarding fair employment practices. In addition, he has served as the Chair of the Personnel/Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management.
Dr. Wallace is a member of the American Compensation Association’s Certification faculty and is co-developer of ACA Certification courses. In 1987, American Compensation Association honored Dr. Wallace with the single largest grant for research in its history to study the linkages between organizational strategy and compensation practice in a broad variety of organizations. Rewards and Renewal, a book describing the experience of 46 different organizations who made the transition to alternative pay, is the product of that grant. In 1995, The American Compensation Association honored Dr. Wallace with the Keystone Contributor Award, recognizing a lifetime contribution to the fields of compensation and human resources.
